Wirraka Maya Health Services Aboriginal Corporation is a leading provider of mental health and community services, dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve their goals and live meaningful lives. We are committed to providing client-centered care that is respectful, inclusive, and focused on recovery pathways. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team, providing support to individuals with mental health challenges, disabilities, and complex needs.

About the Role:
As a Support Worker, you will work closely with clients to help them develop functional life skills, build confidence, and achieve greater independence. You will provide emotional support, advocate on their behalf, and assist in connecting them to essential community resources. Your role will involve both one-on-one support and facilitating group programs that promote care, education, and peer support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients in developing and maintaining a meaningful and sustainable lifestyle.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance in coping, problem-solving, and developing life skills.
  • Work alongside clients to build confidence and independence.
  • Maintain case notes and ensure accurate reporting in line with NDIS, reported in Communicare system and according to organisational guidelines.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, service providers, and other stakeholders to deliver tailored support services.
  • Facilitate group programs and workshops aimed at recovery and education.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control, health, and safety policies.
  • Advocate effectively on behalf of clients to ensure they access the services and resources they need.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required skills and experience

Essential:

  • Cert IV in Mental Health, Community Services, or a related field, OR demonstrated experience in a related field with a view to gaining qualifications.
  • Experience or proven understanding of mental illness and its impact on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including those with disabilities, at risk of homelessness, or dealing with drug and alcohol issues.
  • Strong understanding of the recovery process and belief in client-focused recovery pathways.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team.
  • Experience or willingness to facilitate group programs (e.g., mutual support, focus groups).
  • Valid and Current National Police Clearance.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Current WA Working with Children Check.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working within Aboriginal communities and community health setting.
