Wirraka Maya Health Services Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service designed to ensure our clients' journey through the health system meets their medical, health, social and cultural needs with a vision that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Pilbara have the opportunity to live a health life, with access to culturally appropriate, holistic primary and allied healthcare; social and emotional wellbeing services and education.

Job Description

The Social Worker supports the Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP) team and other organizational needs by providing social and emotional support, advocacy, and connections to community resources for clients and their families. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health counseling and emotional support to individuals, families, and groups.
  • Conduct assessments to determine client needs and refer them to appropriate services.
  • Advocate for clients and link them with Hedland-based support services.
  • Respond to crisis situations and provide case management.
  • Maintain accurate client records and reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care.
  • Work to increase Aboriginal engagement in health services.
  • Build strong partnerships with stakeholders and community service providers.
  • Travel to remote communities as required.

Desired Skills and Experience:

 

Essential:

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • Experience working with clients affected by child abuse, domestic violence, mental health issues, and parental substance abuse.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal primary health care and social determinants of health.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage time efficiently.
  • Competency in using health information systems (e.g., Communicare).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Valid driver’s license, Working with Children Check (WWCC card), and criminal history check.
  • Great stakeholder engagement.

Desirable:

  • Experience in remote health, particularly with mothers and children.
  • Knowledge of social justice issues affecting Indigenous communities.
